Super Makoto Project
From Supermakoto
The Super Makoto Project is an expansive alternate universe project for the Ace Attorney series, which in particular focuses on the Apollo Justice timeline and events. This universe stars the adventures of Makoto Ese as a superheroine, as well as a wide cast of other superpowered heroes and villains.
This wiki was constructed as a part of the Super Makoto Project. Specifically, it is an intermediary stage in the project: ideas for the project, which frequently originate from The CR Paintchat, are brought to the Super Makoto cr.net forums thread and, if agreed upon, are organized into articles here. The goal is to use the polished content from these articles as a source for a website for the project.

[edit] Thread History
[edit] The Absolute Beginning
Super Makoto originated from a single collaborative drawing on the cr.net paintchat on May 29th, 2007. At the center was Makoto Ese with a red cape and a halo, fighting against Hottizilla with a giant Daian attacking a city in the background.
The idea was developed into an actual hero, and with her came a whirlwind of other ideas, including The Kiddy Fiddler, Apollo Justice, Magical Minuki, HoboCop, The Edge, Adrian Andrews, Franziska von Karma and Emperor Manfred von Karma, as well as the beginnings of the overarching storyline of Power Perfect. Less than a week later, on June 3rd, the idea had developed enough to start a thread for the project.
[edit] A Rough Compilation Of The Old Thread's History
[edit] The Project Begins
Other ideas quickly sprang up: Kaoru Yuuka volunteered herself as the first OC to join the madness. (Page 2.) Wocky Kitaki was pegged as a non-super who could act as a love interest to Makoto. The Garyuu Brothers became the villains Sadistress and Rocktra. Pearl Fey was given a Metroid-inspired suit for her new hero identity as the Pink Princess. Matt Engarde was given his demonic form, Repast. Lady Sakai became a pirate-ninja casino-owning queenpin. Ideas for Shelly de Killer and Larry Butz were pitched but didn't take. Luke Atmey became The Eccentrist, and Ron DeLite gained a large beer-belly after his retirement as Mask DeMasque. Yuuka's place became solidified as Moonlight Angel, bodyguard of The Eccentrist.
Story arcs began coming into focus, including a last battle with Kiddy Fiddler and the love triangle between Makoto, Wocky and Matt. (Page 3.) Two concepts for Godot began to arise: Le Comte du Café Cristo and Shadow Cell. (Page 4.) While designing Makoto's super suit became a focus of the design process, an OC named Shannon Vane was pitched as a primary love interest to Kristoph Gavin despite conflicts with his Sadistress alter-ego. Dream Warrior was also designed, called The Chief at the time. Rocktra was given a fashion line called G-Girl; this would fade out over time. A concept for Viola Cadaverini was pitched as a teenage witch, who would transform Furio Tigre into his beastly form.
The spring started to turn into summer, and with free time becoming more abundant, the project took the opportunity to schedule design panel meetings. Makoto's own background started to develop more, and more designs for her super outfit were pitched. (Page 5.) Following after Apollo's designs, Spartan Trucy designs were pitched as well, and a discussion began on just how far the Spartan blood and 300 jokes would run, leading to a decision not to take it all too far. Pearl Fey was also developed further, becoming a strong tsundere type character.
By this point the new character ideas weren't coming as rapidly as before, but ideas like Guildmaster still surfaced. Moonlight Angel's design changed, and a super identity for Shannon called Crimson Monarch started to develop, with wings added and then quickly removed. Around this time, though, some questions and controversies started to surface: a character formula was pitched and quickly rejected on principle, since originality is considered far more valuable than method. The question of the media for the project's final presentation was asked. One of the founders expressed an opinion against Original Characters, the beginning of what would be a long and unpleasant argument over the OCs in the project.
[edit] Development and Drama
Among new ideas and plots getting pitched, the conversation on OCs slowly began to grow out of hand; a defense was pitched for Shannon and Urby, which Yuu took offense to, and the question was raised about the role of these characters. (Page 6.) Both Shannon and Yuu were defended as good models of how Original Characters can compliment characters without having too much of a role to cause much trouble (a defense which would much later seem extremely ironic when project standards changed against this sort of role).
The debate bubbled off for the moment as the conversation turned towards designs again, such as Adrian becoming Pulsar, adopted daughter of Celeste. With the lull another OC was pitched, a second plush character created by Ema in her own likeness. Will Powers joined the story as the Steel Samurai, mentor of Pink Princess. Likewise, Cody Hackins became her biggest fan and love interest. (Page 7.) Mimi Miney became Mime, though the concept would not be fleshed out fully until later. Wesley Stickler had a panty-thieving concept pitched and dropped. Further development for Sadistress was considered, including her boobs changing size as a part of her design, not merely changing art style.
At this point a roleplay based on the Super Makoto Universe was considered and generally approved, though it was never implemented. The question of Makoto's age versus her education level was brought up, and the general agreement was that Makoto was past high school age but doing art-related projects for her alma mater, which would allow her to meet characters who were still in high school. (Page 8.) A small matter of ship disagreements arose and was allowed to dissolve based on the fact that the people on the project are working on it for themselves, not for the community at large. More plot ideas came up, including Viola sacrificing Shannon to spite Kristoph, and a lot of hijinks involving Kristoph and Sadi sharing one body, naked henshin sequences, and Makoto drawing yaoi. Then Urby came back from a trip and was not pleased to see such things in her absence as shipping wars, naked Makoto, and Makoto drawing yaoi. The shipping was settled further by the offer being put forward that, if contrary theories or alternatives are put forward towards any ship in the series, they will be considered. However, until then, the project will stick with whatever is already there.
A discussion started up over Kristoph's transformation, when it could or couldn't work, whether he should get a full transformation sequence or just an instant switch, and whether or not he wears women's underwear just in case he needs to transform in a pinch. Some thought was given to the endings as well, including where Makoto herself would be headed in this story. A new OC was pitched, Lyss, a secret government agent with a strong kick, a one-track mind, and a loyalty to Hobocop. At the same time, the question was posed of whether or not Cody would get to be a hero or just a classmate of Pearl's. The shipping conflict resolved as it was traced to its root, which had nothing to do with liking or disliking a certain shipping at all. Shippings for OCs and canons were discussed by their respective creators, thought was given to G-Girl expanding into G-Universe as Konrad embraced his Rocktra alter-identity more, and more ideas of making Kiddy Fiddler a major villain for Moonlight Angel and the Eccentrist. The shipping war resolved even further by allowing for some pairings to be more suggested than explicit.
A contrary opinion was poised from a regular of the GyakuMECH project regarding the integrity of the project, who felt some decisions needed to be made about Super Makoto's audience and medium, that GS4 characters needed to be considered more carefully in regards to their actual canon motivations and not their most apparent traits, and that much of what had already been built made the project a little too inside-joke-ish and was not particularly welcoming to new members. Immediately after, the 300th post was reached in the thread, with a nice dose of OC/canon sappiness. The conversation started to split between meta-conversation about the prize which had been offered for the 300th post and some agreement that the project was starting to stray from the source material, making it hard to be enjoyed by those outside the project. However, things reunited as discussion of the 300th post bubbled off and it was admitted there was a lot about the project which had not been finalized, and people were only laying down some general foundations so that it may be fine-tuned in the future.
With this in mind, some thought started turning towards that fine-tuning, working out a basic plot and the details of Makoto's own character. A break was suggested, but not particularly heeded, as questions were asked about GS4, which many project members admitted they did not know much about. It was agreed that Makoto's shyness needed some emphasis, more thought was given to the rivalry dynamics between Kristoph and Apollo. As for Maya? "We're working on it." (Page 9.) Several people felt the drama was stressing them out too much and started looking into taking breaks. Others wanted to keep moving forwards. Others were just plain confused. This drama was mostly settled as it was pointed out by Urby herself to be less like actual drama and more like Urby going crazy.
Attention was turned towards Makoto's origin, and how she may have been sheltered from Power Perfect to keep her safe, but she would be found regardless and thus have to step outside as a heroine. From there, it was discussed where Makoto could go after stepping outside, how she would meet her friends, how she would establish her place in life, and how things would get complicated if each and every character and plot was connected to her life. In short, a very massive number of plot-building ideas were dumped on page 9, mostly regarding Makoto, Wocky, the Power Perfect plot, whether Matt should be ultimately good or evil, and how it all connects together. A lot of ideas were pitched and some were finalized, and ultimately it led to driving out the former leader of the project and another member since it was all starting to go over their heads.
Maya was brought up again for a brief moment before the leader returned to again explain why he didn't like OCs being included in the project. The line of discussion was squashed to prevent another fight, but after some discussion of how adorable Makoto and Wocky are together, the discussion returned with the thought that while a lot of the project wasn't going to agree with the general community, so much of the project was founded on such ideas that removing them would break down the story. Returning to the subject of Makoto and Wocky, it was noted that the triangle was pretty simple and predictable with Matt in the mix, but there was another character who could add far more tension between Makoto and Wocky by her mere presence, Alita Tiala. (Page 10.) At the time, it was generally agreed that Alita should be an early opponent of Makoto's; a regular, non-super one who Makoto could shoo away to help her grow from her roots as a painfully shy character. Other canon members of the von Karma family were discussed in Manfred's search for the perfect heir, though this was soon suggested to be simply dropped in a plothole, and the idea of a website for the project was pitched.
The peace was disturbed again as it was brought up that the project was still mostly made for the people who were making it, and this was not particularly welcoming to those who were only watching or still considering whether or not to participate. First response was that the members of the project should be more tactful in stating this opinion and be more willing to compromise in the future, but to go back and remove all inside jokes would remove the heart of the project. The subject turned to OCs, and how these characters should exist to emphasize character traits, and should not change established characters into nice guys for the sake of romance. The OCs could be worked in, and Moonlight Angel became a prominent point of discussion, as it was questioned how she would interact with characters besides The Eccentrist. Shannon was next up to the block, and her own creator admitted that her character may not fit according to proposed standards. More discussion was given on OCs as a whole, and Matt's good or evil role and how he fits into the pairing drama. Equilibrium was reached with Matt by following his role in the game: a sweetheart to the eyes of the characters, but in reality an evil bastard manipulating him for his own gains. With this settled, the thread embarked in full on a long discussion on how to make the dynamics of Shannon and Kristoph work while being true to both characters.
While this was dominating the discussion, some other ideas were brought up, such as Makoto having darker dates with Matt, to the point that even rape was suggested and turned down since it made the series too dark. (Page 11.) A tamer version was also suggested for Matt to sabotage all of Makoto's friendships and relationships, and somehow learned of Makoto's powers. As Kristoph and Shannon continued to fail to work, Bee admitted that there seemed to nothing shared between them, nothing that really created an attraction, and it felt one-sided, especially if Shannon couldn't accept Kristoph as the same person as Sadistress.
An origin of Hobocop and The Edge was pitched by Lyss, including her own OC into the story, but it detached Edge from Von Karma. A more magical girl design for Pink Princess was suggested, but in light of Makoto and Trucy both being magical girls, it was considered excessive at the time. The question was raised if there was a more superhuman race in the story, living in a higher plane of existence, or if such a thing were truly necessary.
After more discussion on these subjects, Bee started working on the first prototype of a website for the project. Amongst the contributors adding profiles for their favorite characters, a bit of attention was given to the Pocket Dimension, its nature and name. (Page 12.) It was noted the OC profiles were more fleshed out than the canon profiles, attributed to the fact that the canons required more thought and care in their profiles. A concept for the Borginia Incident was laid out, raising points to consider - Phoenix's involvement in Mia's death and how he would deal with it, who Gant was before the Kiddy Fiddler, and what the roles of Lana Skye and Lamiroir should be. In further discussion, the question also rose of how Kristoph would relate to Phoenix, given the difference in their roles in this story. And so the conversation moved from the Borginia Incident to Kristoph's origins and his connection to Super Makoto, and how exactly a man like him would become Sadistress. This inevitably brought the conversation back to Kristoph and Shannon, and further failure to make the relationship work. The idea churning came to an end when a link was posted to 2ch, where a thread was posted on "If GS4's Garyuu Kirihito was a woman".
(Page 13.) After this, Black Nail Polish made its appearance with some new Kristoph ideas, as well as a thought for Cody Hackins as a superhero and Lamiroir as a secret agent, while Desirée DeLite was given her hero identity, Triple D. As plot ideas for the Borginia Conflict, the Destruction of Kurain and the like were volleyed between members, a conflict arose in the interpretation of Kristoph and Sadistress, whether his alter ego was a welcomed release to his darker tendencies or a curse upon him. A reminder was dropped on how Dahlia Hawthorne and Viola Cadaverini needed to be worked into the story in their own ways. One new member's head exploded after reading the thread, and another congratulated the project for creating so much epic. Objections rose up at the idea of making Maya the lover of Phoenix, since the project would do better with less shipping and more independent characterization.
The Fey family was explored more, and important objects were explored as the Magatamas became active in the plot and ideas for Apollo Justice's Olympian Relics were considered. A first draft of a timeline was created, in order to boil down the massive backstories and plots which had been discussed. It was noticed Rocktra and Apollo Justice were missing any sort of notable role in all this plot. A short tangent was taken in volunteering themes for different characters and a potential Battle Royale with Cheese plot against Venom Makoto. (Page 14.) Guilty Gear sprites were edited into sprites of Super Makoto characters, and a design conference was organized to keep the project on track. Unfortunately, attention spans were drifting away and were not easily returned.
[edit] The Silent Months
Repast enjoyed a surge of popularity, ideas were worked on to bring Lydia into the cast, and the thread turned towards the theme of the scheduled conference, Makoto's supersuit. Not for long, however, as the month crawled on with a note lack of story for Rocktra and Kiddy Fiddler was noted, as well as the lack of the beloved Marshall brothers. There was also more Kristoph and Shannon, a funny idea involving heroes and baked treats for hair style, and questions about Lydia who had started making her appearance in the art and yet lacked a solid concept.
(Page 15.) As the thread grew ever slower and more quiet, Bee turned to making updates in the form of artdumps. Among these, Pulsar and Dahlia Hawthorne's designs were worked on, and while the new concept of Hairaiser was introduced, the spotlight was given to his bandmate: Konrad Gavin was given a total alignment shift from villain to hero, and Lydia's cosplaying superpower was settled upon. A series of logs from the paintchat were posted for the benefit of people who thought the project had gone dead silent. Name localizations for the new AJ characters were considered as the English names for characters were released. More ideas were tweaked and edited with large art dumps, including Bee going what he later admitted to be overboard with the Venom concept.
New interest began to stir in the thread, but a problem resulted in that new members found it difficult to figure out what was going on. The Fey family was discussed further, and it was generally agreed that Morgan should be involved in the plot as a high level villain. However, besides this, the thread stayed quiet, and most of the former regulars went silent for a few months.
[edit] The Second Creative Surge
(Page 16.) Upon the release of English Apollo Justice names, a declaration was made that a new era would begin in the project and activity would start anew. A new website space was offered, Shannon was placed on the chopping block for failure to fit into the plot, and Bee continued on his Venom spree. MSOB, better known as Bee, lamented the lack of a good index for the project information, because at the time Bee did not have an awesome wiki. While the different names, such as Makoto and Vera, were compared and weighed against each other, Alita Tiala was given her design as a killer nurse. Cold Killer X was in, Shannon was out. And as Bee was informed he was going a bit overboard on the Venom deal, it was agreed to pull back on it a bit.
El Mariachi Machi entered the character fold next, and other AJ characters were looked at to join next, including Troupe Gramarye and the reporters Lotta Hart and Spark Brushel. Then it was time for art, as Bee was leaving on a trip and left it to the other members to keep drawing for the thread.
(Page 17.) In the meantime, the question of OCs was brought up, with the general suggested policy of allowing OCs if the contributors work on more than just the OCs and the characters add to the plot. Art was provided en masse by Urby and others as some character designs were tweaked, such as the renaming of The Chief Plushie to Dream Warrior. One picture in particular, a crack idea of making El Mariachi Machi (the closest thing to a cowboy in the project at the time) and Lady Sakai enemies, would lead to many more ideas from the eventual second in command, not yet a part of the project. When Bee returned, he decided that the project needed a reboot, and began the first plans for a new thread and website for the project. (And yet it was about half a year and another ten pages before it did, in fact, move...)
(Page 18.) Then the thread was attacked by two new contributors and a slew of new designs. First up was a full development of Mimi Miney as Mime, and then came Jake Marshall as a vigilante whose name didn't stick, who would be a mentor to Machi in the Fingerbang technique. This was immediately followed up with Angel Starr as a villain, an idea for the Judge that was generally agreed to be just plain stupid, and a place for Wesley Stickler as a narrative character who doubles as a punching bag. Lana Skye was given her ice powers, Bruce Goodman became Shadow and Angel's secret lover, and the groundwork was laid for a new role for Damon Gant.
Pie, getting comfortable with pitching the ideas for the project, attacked the thread with a massive wall of text brainstorm for Hairaiser, wanting to work Borginian Cocoons in somehow but uncertain how to go about it. (Page 19.) Keeping most of that on the burner still, Regina Berry was added to the cast as a fun and unusual concept for a villain. Damon Gant's new role in the plot was hammered out as he became former leader of the super team SL-6, exposed by his own teammates as a villain. With an interest found in Tegaki, an invasion of Super Makoto art was begun and promptly dropped due to displeasure with the interface. Cody Hackins was reworked to be more of an otaku punk than a hero. A new take on Makoto's old outfit appeared, and improvements were made on Hairaiser's design, defining the role of Borginian Cocoons as the source of Atrocinine, powerful medicine and poison. This was expanded further into Holy Trinity Hospital, tying together a multitude of characters into one nice package.
With this idea working out beautifully, thought was given to Kristoph's origins, this time involving Artspace and a broken mirror, and some write-off explanation for Konrad having the power to copy his brother to explain why he gained it as well. (Page 20.) There was also the question of timeline, and fitting together concepts like Holy Trinity and the Destruction of Kurain through Mime. Sadistress became even more stripperiffic. Pie discussed her own OC as a character and had it set aside for later days, since the existing OCs required full evaluation first. While recovering from her own paranoia, Pink Princess was given a more shoujo, schoolgirl look.
[edit] Wiki and the Frames
Then came an idea of particular note, because Pie's the one writing this (if you can't already tell) and it relates to what you are looking at right now: Pie suggested to MSOB, better known as Bee, making a wiki for the project. Bee's reaction was, "Why didn't I think of this earlier?" After some discussion on the subject, the Super Makoto Wiki was started. Excelsior!
(Page 21.)April May was added to round out the nurses at Holy Trinity. Misty Fey's role in the plot was questioned, and it was considered that she could have once a hero, driven out of service by someone like Kiddy Fiddler, and went into hiding somewhere like Boriginia. Romein LeTouse was considered, either as just an Interpol agent or one who would have enough durability to handle the kickback of a cannon, but it brought Lamiroir into the picture again, as well as Troupe Gramarye, Apollo Justice, and a lot of things that were decided best left on the back burner until more was learned about Apollo's family in future games.
(Page 22.) So, instead, a different family was worked on, as the details of the Fey family and the destruction of Kurain were played with. It was asked why Dahlia would still be called Hawthorne, with the explanation immediately brought up that it was a nom de plume. Celeste Inpax and Juan Corrida were added to the cast as important figures in the von Karma empire, which brought up the question of what kind of empire it would be. The Perceive System and the Blessed Eye were compared and decided as different things.
Hobocop's current life, particularly in regards to Trucy, was questioned. A team of Misty Fey, Maya Fey, Lamiroir and Romein LeTouse was pitched but it didn't stick, since the Gramaryes still needed to be treated with care. (Page 23.) The values of flight were mentioned and it was considered who should be given this skill, which led to the consideration of the Faceless Goons serving under Von Karma.
Afterwards, Makoto's powers were expanded as the opening to the film Paprika inspired her ability to jump in and out of artwork, creating the Artjump and Artspace. (Page 24.) This was followed by an expansion of how Spirit Channeling works, connecting the summoning of dead spirits with other powers by assuming these powers were created by summoning, and it was guessed that Pearl Fey would still be able to use this in Super Makoto, with more raw power but less practice and control than Maya. It was also considered that Kiddy Fiddler and some other villains should die for real in order to empower the Feys.
Along with some wiki work, it was noted that there was a problem in the timeline, namely that if we went with canon ages, Franziska would have given birth to Makoto at the age of six. It was also noted that Apollo Justice had the same real name as super name. The Blue Badger Corps were added, including Dick Gumshoe, Maggey Gumshoe and current Blue Badger Ema Skye. From this, the base concept upon which Gant's Arc would be built were laid down, including some very basic framework for the Current Arc.
Mike Meekins joined the cast as the speedy Cobalt, and was shortly after made partners with the "dead" Shadow. (Page 25.) It was agreed Dick and Maggey would be married, and the roles of Spark Brushel and Lotta Hart were more clearly defined as ones trying to make a big scoop by figuring out the real identity of Super Makoto. The details of the rebellion against Von Karma were more clearly defined. More work was done on the framework of the plot arc structure. Moonlight Angel was given a temporary farewell from the cast, and the role of The Eccentrist was reevaluated.
At this point a new photobucket account exclusively for Super Makoto was registered, separate from the original paintchat photobucket. Romein LeTouse and Interpol were brought up, including the fact that if LeTouse died, surely a new agent would have to be sent in to replace him. After this, the SL-6 Incident was covered in more detail, with the Blue Badger Corps now involved. Franziska and Adrian were given the civilian false identities of Cindy Stone and her 'husband' Adrian Stone, Jack Hammer was considered as a Gym Teacher for the high school that Pearl and Trucy attend, and Lotta Hart was given a new look based on her concept art. (Page 26.) April May was made the nurse primarily responsible for Daryan Crescend's wellbeing while at Holy Trinity Hospital.
The forums underwent a brief downtime, at which point the project was moved to a temporary thread on the site's old invisionfree forums [1], but afterwards discussion resumed as normal. The history of Adrian Andrews, Celeste Inpax and Juan Corrida was expanded further, with Juan gaining a Gitaroo as his weapon. While their concepts were still under development, Dee Vasquez was made a close relative of Viola Cadaverini. Regina Berry and Tuxedo Max were officially made henchmen of Luke Atmey. Sean Dingling was put into a coma, much like his canon self, while his brother Ken Dingling was put in charge of a less-than-honorable casino business. It was considered making Konrad Gavin the legendary hero of the Gitaroo, and Moonlight Angel returned to the cast as something more ethereal and imaginary.
More framework of Gant's Arc was hammered out, including the fate of Bruce and Angel at the end of such, and as it was set into the beginning of the Current Arc, Karma's Arc was set into the end. Sadistress's role was noted as an Archenemy rather than a Big Bad, and she and her brother/sister were suggested to be half-succubi, explaining their gendershifting. Pie, recently promoted and feeling a little more confident, suggested that her OC might be the Interpol Agent to replace LeTouse after his death at the hands of Hairaiser. However, her promotion marked the final days of the old thread.
[edit] The Wrap-Up
It was at this time Bee noted that activity had slumped to the point that only himself and Pie were working on the project, a one-person improvement over the year before, while all other members were busy getting priorities in order. In the meantime, there was still work going on: Guy Eldoon became a healer for all supers, good and evil, the lack of a firebug was noted as a minor issue, the thought was raised of Machi gaining the Gramarye Pistol somewhere along the line, and the magical abilities of Trumpcard Trucy and Tuxedo Max were compared and contrasted.
It was decided, however, to finally make a new thread for the project. While waiting for the thread to be archived, April's role as Daryan's caretaker was explored further. A final picture was posted of Lotta looking at a photo of the 'first sighting' of the mysterious heroine Super Makoto, with bright red paint trailing behind her intended to echo the cape drawn on the first picture of Super Makoto.
With this, the thread was locked and archived, and a fresh new thread was created in its place.
[edit] Our Best Attempt At Building A Timeline From Here On In
[edit] Rivalries, Capisce?
On September 28, 2008, after some kick-off excitement and shenanigans, the discussion was picked up with ideas for three characters: Shelly de Killer, Viola Cadaverini and Dee Vasquez. One idea featured involving Matt Engarde, making him indebted to Dee, sending him after de Killer, and sending him off to Holy Trinity after his failure. A side idea to this was giving Dee power to grant people a limited immortality in exchange for their servitude. Another idea was giving Viola a witchblade or making her into an oracle. Whatever the decision, it would bring the Kitaki family into it, due to their status as a mob family.
At this time, a different, meta-project rival conflict started to rise. Lawyerman, a different Ace Attorney superhero AU created long after Super Makoto, started taking interest in the new thread. One of the immediate effects of this was Lawyerman taking the idea of a project wiki, finding Super Makoto's too good to resist.
With undeveloped of the story still in mind, Redd White was given more consideration, since he had been considered a character of the story for a long time, yet no inspired ideas had turned up as to his specific role. Mostly, his relationship with April was considered, and the resulting effect on Daryan. This brought up the fact that Daryan had to somehow lose contact with his parents, and killing them might be better for the story.
While this was given some thought, the idea of Viola as an oracle was considered further, including the idea of a family tradition, as well as the idea of incorporating the Oracle of Delphi, which ran into a problem with how the location of Delphi itself played such a large role in the myth. It was thought that perhaps a different look at witchcraft should be used.
A new idea came up for the ultimate fate of Daryan's parents, turning them into heroes who were killed by Gant. This was expanded further by bringing Daryan into the beginnings of Gant's Arc, having him work for Gant early in the arc but turn against him once he learned that Gant killed his parents. This in turn was considered for a new interpretation of Gant's name "The Kiddy Fiddler, as he was considering young potential heroes into a life of crime. It was also considered having Gant play a role in the Fey family crisis, reuniting Pearl with her mother who could in turn mislead her. (Page 2.) This in turn lead to thoughts on who would be the Big Bads of the Plot Arcs of the Current Arc, and the roles and levels of the different villains. With Tigre, Matt, and Bruto Cadaverini brought up, the discussion returned to the mafia, and thinking of new ideas for Viola.
New interest was stirring in the thread, and some statistics and information on the project were shared. In response, Lawyerman came and wept about their lack of activity. But the discussion returned to Viola, and her implied use of such things as poisons. This turned into an herbalist sort of power with a related use of fire. Combining this with the old Witchblade idea, it was considered giving her a symbiotic plant of some sort, and with her Italian background, this turned to the idea of fire flowers from Mario. Holy Trinity was mentioned, but turned down except as a potential enemy of the Cadaverinis attempting to gain research or control her herbalist abilities.
After this, attention returned to the end of Gant's Arc, and the potential of Lana appearing in the final showdown with him. Looking more into the greater picture of the story arcs, it was suggested that Misty Fey's role be solidified, given her importance in the Fey family and other plotlines, as well as her parallel with Makoto herself by being an artist. For a while, however, the thread launched into a tangent discussing Interpol ID numbers, and Manfred von Karma was a penguin.
(Page 3.) The history of Misty Fey's role in the story was fleshed out. From this, an origin for Gant's motive was also developed, incorporating Gregory Edgeworth, and potentially set him up for a Heel Face Turn post-death. Viola was granted the supername Belladonna, with her plant being named Charley. More Interpol agents were added in the form of Valerie Hawthorne, Terry Fawles and potentially Pie LaMode, and some details of the Destruction of Kurain were considered, as well as a note that Mimi Miney would probably be known as Ini Miney.
After this, attention was turned to Bruto Cadaverini, and in consideration of his own abilities in witchcraft, it was conceptualized that it was he who summoned the succubus mother of the Gavins into the world and promptly was rejected by her. The details of this and the design of the Cadaverini family were sketched out. The Celestial Staff and Celestial Brush were considered in closer detail. It was suggested that some of the character parents need names, and soon after Troia Gavin was named. Thoughts were given to Bikini and to Plum Kitaki. (Page 4.) Lydia became Lydia Cadaverini, comparing her relationship with Konrad to Romeo and Juliet, and making her a 'pink sheep' of The Cadaverini Family.
A new visitor stopped by, with questions regarding members who had left the project, undeveloped characters, and OCs in the project. A summary was posted to make sure everyone reading was on the same page, and afterwards it was suggested that the Ace Attorney manga characters be included in Super Makoto, especially the sister of Dee Vasquez. It was suggested that more images be added to the wiki, which led (predictably) to more images being added to the wiki. A new suggestion was given for Gregory Edgeworth as a werewolf, which would soon be incorporated and again revise the backstory of Miles Edgeworth. After further discussion of this, the wiki's timeline was updated with birthdates and a quick look at the story arcs was given at the request of a visitor.
There were some new attempts at designing the look of Super Makoto, experimenting with things like a sweaterdress and some more feminine aspects, and the art styles of MoronSonOfBoron and Kiero were compared in this regard. Meanwhile, Pie got busy making the wiki pink, colorful, and more distinctly customized for the Super Makoto Project. The fate of Léon was brought up, and it was suggested that he gain the ability to transform into a large, powerful feline like Battlecat from He-Man. Regent was also considered, but in terms of personality rather than ability. It was noted that Pearl and Daryan shared some similarities in backstory, and an idea had started growing from that to give Pearl a crush on Daryan.
A large portion of important plot started developing: Kristoph became the military defense council for Diego, requesting forged evidence from Makoto that was proven fake and thus led to Diego's exile and Kristoph's disbarment. Afterwards, Kristoph would work at Ariadne Cosmetics, owned along with G-Girl by Troia Gavin. Gregory Edgeworth became the catalyst for Misty Fey's disappearance, being infected by Venom and then shot with a silver bullet, doomed to die when Misty cured him and cause her to be blamed for the death. This would also trigger Celeste Inpax's rebellion against Von Karma, and it was also considered that Celeste could leave a memento behind for her daughter after death, delivered by a guilt-ridden Juan. Troia Gavin's role as head of Ariadne Cosmetics was considered to be expanded into a connection to Black Nail Polish: Von Karma would infect her with Venom, forcing her to make the Black Nail Polish, and when she was freed would, in anger at being dominated, assisting her in gaining control of the Venom herself.
This led to some discussion about the nature of Venom and Misty's light-spectrum colors versus Makoto's pigment-spectrum colors. (Page 5.) And then, after some discussion began on Valerie Hawthorne and Interpol, it was time for another hiatus.
[edit] The Silent Months Return
We're kind of bad about this.
[edit] Goals, Consensuses and Decisions
[edit] Project Goals
- To tell the best story we can and illustrate it with outstanding visuals.
- To pay tribute to the Ace Attorney fandom by staying true to its characters' roots but exploring new aspects of said characters.
- To think outside the box and seek truly inspired ideas.
[edit] Plot
For a good look at the state of the plot, please see the timeline of events.
[edit] Questions, Controversies and Conflicts
- Neither this page nor the talk page for this article is the place to discuss these subjects further. If you would like to state an opinion on anything mentioned here, please post it in the Super Makoto cr.net forums thread.
[edit] Format and Audience
While it is generally accepted that the project is primarily made for the enjoyment of the fans who are making it, there have been several discussions about who the audience of Super Makoto is and the final format to present it in.
[edit] Shipping
It has come up on occasion whether shippings should be heavily incorporated into Super Makoto or whether they are all better left implied. It has reached a point where ships are generally handled on a case-by-case scenario. See shippings of Super Makoto for more information.
[edit] Original Characters
One of the most controversial questions of the Super Makoto project is the role of original characters in the story. The people working on the project currently have accepted that there is not only a place but an importance to include these characters in the world of Super Makoto.
Currently, Original Characters fall victim to one of two problems:
- If the Original Character does not provide deep support for the Canon Characters, they are extraneous and unnecessary.
- If the Original Character is given the focus and development necessary to support the Canon Characters, they risk damaging the story by detracting focus from the Canon Characters, a.k.a. Mary Sue Syndrome.
There is only a very narrow gap of room, if there is any, between these standards and it is uncertain how to best work between them. Still, with the second standard in mind and the arguments that result from this subject being addressed directly, Original Characters and this question have taken a backseat to pressing issues with developing Canon Characters in the Super Makoto universe.
Most of the first adopted OCs, during the "anything goes" early stage of the Super Makoto project, have been modified or removed; Shannon has been removed from the project entirely, and Kaoru Yuuka has been worked into a new interpretation of her former self. On the other hand, Dream Warrior has never really caused a problem. Newer OCs are being considered carefully, with Lydia being one who has found a nice, agreeable niche in the project with hopes that she'll branch out from it. Pie's OC has been given a bit of consideration lately, but that matter is still pretty much up in the air.
