Austere, stiff, and by some accounts boring, Miles is an intelligent and composed individual who prefers to approach everything using logic and critical thinking. He believes in law and justice, and hates criminals with a passion. He is somewhat withdrawn and insensitive towards others, despite his refined mannerisms and controlled demeanor. He has some eccentric tastes, caring little for others' opinions of him, good or bad.
Miles obviously internalizes most of his more conflicting emotions, especially concerning the way he feels about other people. His thirst for justice is tainted by a lust for revenge, and it shows in his aggressive and ruthless prosecution style. He is horrified to find that he enjoys the thrill of the chase in bringing down criminals, either with his carefully constructed casework or with his bare claws.

Miles has the ability to transform into a werewolf, gaining size, speed, and strength, as well as heightened senses and awareness. Unlike werewolves of mythology, Miles can activate this transformation at any time, though it can also be automatically triggered by his subconscious (making nighttime transformations more likely). His werewolf form can also be triggered by rage and aggressive feelings, and can automatically take over if Miles loses his composure. Miles responds to the codename "Edge" while transformed.
In addition to his supernatural strengths, the Edge also has access to some devices through his connections with the Blue Badger.

Miles focuses on his professional life more than his social, though he does have a few people he relies on. He hardly ever talks about his family, having lost them at a young age.

- Gregory Edgeworth
- Miles' late father, who was murdered for daring to stand up against organized crime. His death fuels Miles' anger and thirst for justice to this day.

- Ema Skye
- Miles relies on the "Blue Badger" to provide him tools and information, especially the treatments she develops to control his lycanthropy. Her scientific investigation methods are also useful for building cases in court. Although the basis for their relationship is entirely professional, it is painfully obvious that they admire and respect each other to no small degree, even when butting heads.
- Phoenix Wright
- An old friend and occasional crimefighting partner. Miles knew Phoenix in their childhood years, and also helped set him up in the field of law after Phoenix's discharge from the military. Miles admires Phoenix's more evenhanded attitude when it comes to justice, and is puzzled as to why Phoenix returned to working for the government.
- Larry Butz
- A childhood friend and constant annoyance. Miles thinks very little of Larry, but has had the displeasure of relying on him. Larry is an inconvenience at best.
