Daryan Crescend, also known as the villain Hairaiser, is a rogue villain known for his legendary locks of Leviathan. Given his lack of cooperation with other villains and his unusual circumstances which require him to get Borginian Cocoons by any means necessary, he does have more of a neutral tendency than other villains. By the end of the day, though, he's still on the bad side of the law and not about to change that.

[edit] Biography

[edit] Personality

Daryan doesn't like you.

Thanks to his unhappy past, Daryan's got a paranoid streak that's screwed up his morals. "Good" people have tried to take advantage of his unusual power, and so he doesn't believe in true selflessness; in his eyes, benevolence is a farce. He believes people are either going to try to hurt or control him for their own gain or they're too naive to understand that it's a dogfish eat dogfish world out there.

With this view of the world in mind, however, Daryan has no plans to surrender and is more than ready to do whatever it takes to survive on his own, even if it means a total disregard for the law. He is a force to be reckoned with and he wants everyone to know it, inspiring fear and hate towards himself to ward off threats. Sure, he's got a soft side, but he's guarded it with rough skin and razor-sharp teeth, and there's few people he'll relax that guard for even a little. He is extremely abrasive and intentionally harsh towards others, targeting signs of weakness quickly.

Despite all this, he's found a pretty good niche as a rock star, and no destructive thinking in the world could ruin his love of music. He's clever and has senses as sharp as those of a shark, which means that if he weren't spending his time living a life of crime, he'd probably be successful as a detective. He has a fondness for earthly pleasures, including money, fame and sex, though the last one is difficult for him to indulge in given that he doesn't like people in general. He dislikes hospitals and, for reasons we are not sure of yet, flying in airplanes.

Daryan tends to have a cocky and informal speaking style, and is fond of making wisecracks or lewd remarks at the expense of others. He points and laughs shamelessly. He does not regularly use the names of people, instead referring to them by a mocking nickname or some other insult. This is possibly because of his general dislike of people.

Oh, that reminds me: Daryan still doesn't like you.

[edit] Powers and Abilities

As Hairaiser, Daryan's primary power is that which he is named for: his powerful hair, which he controls as a mutated extension of his body. It can grow to seemingly limitless lengths and shift its shape into dangerous weapons. Don't let the fact that it is hair fool you; while it may normally be as soft as regular hair, he can and will make it hard as wire and sharp as razors, dangerous to even touch.

It is, however, a danger to himself as well, and not just because hair is flammable. He has no exceptional resistances, and in fact could be considered vulnerable for a superpowered villain. If left unchecked for a long period of time, his control over his hair weakens and his health degenerates. If left unchecked for too long, it could take over and become a monster of its own. This is the fact that defines his life, and why his future is ultimately bound to atrocinine: if he goes without it, the results could be fatal, but if he takes too much, he would lose his powers... and, again, the results could be fatal.

He has exceptionally keen senses, comparable to those of a shark. His sensitivity plays in his favor in this regard, as well as his experience as a musician. His eyesight is good, but his sense of smell and hearing are far better, making it possible for him to fight well while blind and making it difficult to sneak up on him. It also makes him very sensitive to electricity, which is as much a weakness as it is a benefit; he makes a conscious effort to keep a minimal amount of static charge in his hair.

[edit] Background

Daryan had his powers from birth, though back then they were referred to only as an "acute condition". It drew attention to him from the start as a potential super, but this was not the primary concern for long. In his childhood, his health grew steadily worse as his hair grew more powerful. His parents were alarmed and desperate to save him. As a final resort, they submitted him to the experimental treatments of Holy Trinity Hospital.

The doctors of the hospital were nothing short of genius, but they weren't quite as "good" as their reputation claimed. In fact, the doctors were quite eager to experiment with Daryan's unusual powers and modify them for their own intents. For years, he was their little pet project, and while they kept his condition stable by atrocinine he was trained into a living weapon. Due to his relative instability, however, they intended to use him as their servant while they used the data from studying him to work on a perfect soldier.

The true nature of their treatments could not be kept a secret forever, and when Daryan realized what had really been done to him, he wasted no time in escaping. He stole a stash of Borginian Cocoons from them which would supply him with the atrocinine he would need to live, and then broke free of the hospital.

For a period, Daryan was completely on his own. Being kept for treatments had fully severed him from the world he had known in his childhood, and he had no one he could depend on. With some struggling he fell back into step with society, though he was walking the path of a solitary drifter. He had no stable work until he met Konrad Gavin, and worked with him to start a band, The Gavinners.

His stash of cocoons wasn't enough to last him for very long, however, and due to international conflicts Daryan could find no legal way to acquire the deadly poison that his life depended on. Faced with this situation and armed with incredible power, Daryan made the decision to turn to crime, telling only his best friend enough to figure out his plans. Thus, Konrad was unfortunate enough to bear witness to the day when his best friend first called himself the Hairaiser.

[edit] Relation to other characters

[edit] Family

Vincent and Lucrecia Crescend
Daryan's parents, who were both heroes and whose genetics contributed to his strange condition. Some time after his treatments began at Holy Trinity Hospital, however, they were killed in action. Daryan never learned the identity of their murderer, but he may learn in the worst possible way...
Other Experiments
In a certain sense, Daryan's fellow experimental subjects Furio Tigre and Matt Engarde could be considered "brothers" of his, given their powers were developed as a modified version of his condition. However, he has no knowledge of their connection to him, and if he were to somehow learn of it, it's unknown how he would react. Given his track record, we would expect heads to roll.

[edit] Friends

April May
Daryan, having spent the bulk of his childhood and the beginnings of adulthood at Holy Trinity, was raised by this nurse and grew to see her as his family. She trained him in combat and taught him to respect breasts.
Konrad Gavin
After escaping Holy Trinity, Daryan met up with this German pretty boy and now considers him his best friend. He is Konrad's right-hand man and plays guitarist in his band, the Gavinners. The two have their disagreements, but Konrad is one of the few people who Daryan is on relatively good terms with. They have their conflicts, due to Daryan's abrasive nature and issues with trust, but the friendship has survived rocky moments and rarely come to blows... for now.
The Fiddler
Even before Daryan became the Hairaiser, he started cooperating with this criminal, acting as a mercenary of sorts: he did dirty work, and the Fiddler provided him with cocoons. However, their alliance is doomed to be broken, once the truth comes to light.
Acro
Another man working under the Fiddler. He displays protective and mentoring attitude towards Daryan, which Daryan naturally resents; he avoids working with Acro when he can.

[edit] Foes

Holy Trinity
Daryan bears a grudge against the "good doctors" who tried to turn him into a super soldier and, rather than curing him of his dangerous condition, turned him into a weapon. Turner Grey and Pal Meraktis might be gone before he can get his hands on them, but he's still aching for revenge against Hotti. He's not exactly willing to make friends with their successors, either.
Rocktra
There are few people in the world who bother Daryan quite so much as this pink-haired poser, who not only beats the Gavinners in terms of success but has, since their first conflict, always trumped him in battle. There'll be rough times ahead and further damage to Daryan's trust of people when he finds out who this 'copycat' really is.
The Fiddler
Though by the time the story starts, Daryan is willingly cooperating with this greater villain, it is an alliance that was made to be broken: when Daryan learns the truth that Gant killed his parents, the Fiddler's going to be Daryan's biggest enemy very fast.
El Mariachi Machi
Actually, Daryan barely even knows this kid. Unfortunately, they have a conflicting interest in Borginian Cocoons, causing them to cross paths and exchange blows often. When Daryan's need for atrocinine gets desperate, he will reluctantly cooperate with this boy to pursue the lost cocoons.
Romein LeTouse
The first life Daryan's powers ever claimed. For a villain, Daryan doesn't kill people very often, actually. But this Interpol agent tried to stop his plans, and the result was fatal.
Pie LaMode
A replacement Interpol agent sent in after LeTouse. They just doesn't know when to call it quits. At least this one seems pretty hot.

[edit] Trivia

  • Daryan always wears a steel medical bracelet for his condition, even when he is Hairaiser. It's only there for emergency purposes and he tries to draw attention away from it in shame. As Hairaiser, his gloves cover it entirely.
  • Daryan's guitar is still named Geeter and he loves it very much. However, if he needs to rock in the middle of a battle, he'll shape his hair into a temporary substitute.
